Main Pool Closure Update | The Royal Commonwealth Pool

Main Pool Closure Update | The Royal Commonwealth Pool

We’re getting ready to make some exciting improvements at The Royal Commonwealth Pool, as part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental impact and creating a more sustainable future.

From Monday 30th June to Sunday 10th August inclusive, we’ll be carrying out essential improvement works to replace the insulation in our pool hall. This is a major step toward making the building more energy efficient—reducing heat loss, lowering our carbon footprint, and creating an eco-friendlier facility for everyone.

Temporary Closure of the Main Pool

To complete this work safely, our main 50m pool will be temporarily closed during this period. However, many of our other services will continue to operate as normal, including:

  • Dive Pool (closed 08:00 – 18:00 on Wednesday 16 July only, for essential maintenance)
  • Teaching Pool (closed 08:00-18:00 on Thursday 17 July only,)

  • Family Swim and Public Diving
  • Water-Based Fitness Classes (Aquafit, Hydrospin, H20 HiiT, and a reduced Masters programme on Mondays at 0730 only).
  • Buddy Swim
  • Relaxed Swim (Tuesdays at 12:00 only during school holidays)
  • Dive Squad Coaching
  • Gym and Studio Fitness Classes
  • Clambers Soft Play and Parties
  • Holiday Clubs and Sports Camps
  • Café Refresh

What’s Unavailable

The following activities will be paused during the works:

  • Aquadash (available at Ainslie Park Leisure Centre)
  • Aquadash Birthday Parties
  • Casual Swim, Lane Swim, Swim 121s
  • Skills & Drills, Powerswim

Continue Swimming Across the City

Don’t forget—you can still enjoy lane and casual swimming at any of Edinburgh Leisure’s 11 other pools across the city while the main pool is closed. With flexible timetables and facilities to suit all ages and abilities, it’s easy to find a session that works for you. Visit our website or check the Edinburgh Leisure app to find your nearest venue.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we undertake this important investment in The Royal Commonwealth Pool. This work represents a vital step in our journey toward becoming a greener, more energy-efficient facility—one that not only meets the needs of our community today but is also fit for the future.
